IRISH YOUTH HOCKEY PRESIDENT’S NOTE – 2/21/2017

Dear IYHL Families,

We are closing in on the end of another great season but still have a lot going on in our league over these next few weeks.   All six of our Rover teams made the Northern Illinois Hockey League playoffs.  I am also happy to report our Rover teams went 6-0 this weekend and are all moving on in the playoffs.  Congrats to our players and coaches as they continue their quest for the Wolves Cup Championship.  Our Select teams just played in a Hockey Time Tournament over the weekend.  Both the 12U Gold and 12U Silver teams won their respective championships.  Finally, our league playoffs start this week and end on March 12 with our first annual IYHL Championship Day.  All four divisions will play their championship games that day.  If your team doesn’t make it still plan on coming out and supporting the other teams in your division.  The fun starts at 1:00.  More info will follow as we get closer to the date.

The annual General Membership meeting is March 21 at 6:30 at the Ice Box.  I will review the past year, answer questions and we will vote to elect 5 board members.  If you are interested in running for the board please email me and we can get you on the ballot and I can answer questions you might have about the 2-year board commitment.  Email your “bio” for the ballot to me at iyhl.president@gmail.com

We have two exciting options for spring hockey for our kids this year.  Notre Dame will be putting on their Compton Classrooms starting March 20.  We will be sending our info on this soon.  You can register your child through the Compton website.  We will not be sending teams this year to the Chicago spring league like the past few years.  This year will be putting together teams to play in two Hockey Time Production tournaments.  One in South Bend on April 21-22-23 and one in Ann Arbor May 5-6-7.   We will have registration for these teams through our IYHL web site.  We will have one or two teams for 10U, 12U, and 14U.  It just depends on how many kids we have sign up.  There is also the possibility we will have a tryout and have to cut kids.  It just depends on the number signed up.  These teams will also practice together before the tournaments.  Your son or daughter can do the Compton Classrooms and be on the HTP tournament teams or just do one or the other.

Finally, as we enter the house league and Rover playoffs portion of the season please remember we are a Zero Tolerance organization.  Support your kids and cheer them on, but please no comments directed towards the referees or fans and players of your opponent.  Let’s be a model association and be proud of all our actions both on and off the ice.

See you at the rink,
