Dear IYHL Families: The Board has some exciting news to announce.  The IYHL along with the Compton Family Ice Arena and The Ice Box are submitting a bid for the 2019 14U Tier II USA Hockey National Championship.  In 2019 our 14U AA Rover team will automatically qualify to play in the championship, so it is something for those players to shoot for.  We won’t know until October if our bid is accepted. If it is accepted there will be a lot of work for the IYHL Board and we will need a lot of volunteers to help pull off a successful tournament.  Stay tuned and I will keep everyone posted on our progress.

Online registration will be open soon for the 14U checking clinic in August.  So, if you were born in 2003 or 2004 you can sign up.  I would encourage all first year 14U players so sign up as this will be your first year of checking.  You should attend all three sessions to be prepared for the upcoming season (Aug 10, 15 and 22).  The clinic is FREE for IYHL players as the league will be picking up the cost.  This will make our league better and safer so please sign up.

Irish Rover travel team conditioning and tryout sign up is now open.  All the dates for conditioning skates (Aug 17, 24) and tryouts (Aug 26, 27 and 28) are on the IYHL website calendar.   If you would like to be a head coach for a Rover team, the online application is now open.  We would like to have the Rover coaches named by July 1.

We have some exciting opportunities for girls playing in the IYHL and board member Dr. Jason Hix is spearheading our girl’s hockey.  We will have more info throughout the summer to pass on.

If you are planning to coach in the IYHL this year you will need to make sure your background check is up to date, you complete safe sport, attend a clinic if needed and do your modules.  There will be NO COACHING CLINIC IN SOUTH BEND THIS YEAR.  So, if you need to attend one check the USA Hockey website for clinics.  They probably won’t be posted until August.

Finally, regular season registration will open in July so enjoy your summer because the season will be here before you know it.
